The law states that a landlord can only charge a maximum of two weeks in advance and it depends on whether the tenant will be paying rent weekly or fortnightly. If the landlord is going to require the tenant to pay weekly, then they can only charge one week in advance. But if the landlord is happy to accept fortnightly rent payments then they may ask the tenant to pay two weeks rent in advance. At Propertyscouts we have a policy of asking for one weeks rent in advance so that the tenants pay their rent weekly.
