New Zealand's healthy homes standards require all rental properties to meet specific requirements for heating, insulation, ventilation, moisture, and draught stopping. Since 1 July 2025, all rentals must comply at the start of any new or renewed tenancy.
At Propertyscouts, we help landlords across NZ understand and meet their healthy homes compliance obligations, from initial assessment through to coordinating any upgrade work needed to bring the property up to standard.
A proper healthy homes assessment is the first step to compliance. Our trained property managers conduct a full assessment against all five healthy homes standards NZ landlords must meet: heating capacity for the living room, ceiling and underfloor insulation that meets current insulation requirements in NZ, adequate ventilation in all habitable rooms, effective moisture and drainage control, and draught stopping of unused chimneys and visible gaps.
After the assessment, we provide a detailed healthy homes report with photos, compliance status for each standard, and clear recommendations. A healthy homes certificate gives landlords confidence that their property meets all current requirements and provides evidence if any disputes arise.
